As IT initiatives and ITIL/ITSM influence the way we look at IT and more specifically, how we deliver IT as a service, applications like the BalancePoint Suite from Akorri will become increasingly important. With the increasing adoption of server and storage consolidation and virtualization technologies, there is a strong need for management solutions that span multiple domains. The BalancePoint Suite provides a cross-domain view of application infrastructure from the VMware-enabled virtual machines running in physical servers through to the SAN attached storage arrays that applications rely on.

A BalancePoint appliance installed in the data center uses agent-less data collection technology to provide a cross-domain view of IT infrastructure. ESG Lab was impressed by the crisp presentation of end-to-end application infrastructure and performance data provided by the intuitive web-based BalancePoint GUI—particularly when used to manage the relationship between VMware ESX virtual machines and applications and infrastructure associated with them.

The advanced analytic capabilities of the BalancePoint solution enables IT managers to find and fix problems at the application level and make recommendations for the optimized utilization of resources at the server and storage level. Ultimately, ESG Lab has confirmed that BalancePoint provides the storage-centric cross-domain intelligence needed to plan for the cost-effective delivery of transparent IT services.
